The Town of Bayfield’s Municipal Court is committed to the administration of justice with equality, fairness and integrity. Court employees strive to treat customers with respect and dignity.
The Bayfield Municipal Court administers judicial operations of the Town in accordance with the Town's ordinances & the Colorado Revised Statutes Court Rules. Municipal Court is held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month @ 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers at 1199 Bayfield Parkway.
Court employees cannot give legal advice, but are happy to answer procedural questions.
The types of cases heard in the Bayfield Municipal Court are traffic, parking, animal and other municipal code violations. The Town enforces minor offenses that violate the Model Traffic Code or the Bayfield Town Code.
Some charges require an appearance in court, while others may be resolved by mailing in a fine. Fines should be mailed to Bayfield Municipal Court. Attn: Municipal Court Clerk. P.O. Box 80 Bayfield, CO 81122.
The Town of Bayfield Municipal Court does not hear civil or felony cases.
Municipal Judge - James A Casey
The Town Board appointed James A Casey as municipal judge for a two year term in September 2011. His term will end in September of 2013 but may be reappointed by the Board to subsequent terms of two years each, following the regular election of the Board of Trustees.
Municipal Court Clerk - Kathleen Cathcart
